RESEARCH AIMS
Understand basic cultural and racial processes. We are interested in testing theoretically and empirically derived models of cultural and racial constructs. For example, our work has highlighted the dynamic bilinear and domain-specific nature of acculturation.
Explore the role of cultural and racial factors in health and health disparities. We are interested in identifying ways in which cultural and racial factors affect mental and physical health, influence health-related behaviors, and play a role in health disparities. For example, our work has linked acculturative stress and racism-related stress to mental health.
Evaluate the measurement of cultural and racial constructs. We are interested in examining the psychometric properties and factor structure of commonly used meaures of cultural and racial constructs and testing the extent to which these measures operate in an equivalent fashion across diverse populations.
Develop and test the efficacy of culturally and ecologically valid evidence based interventions for diverse populations. We are developing a video-based depression intervention for Asian elder populations.
