The Creative Initiatives in Teacher Education (CITE) is a graduate-level teacher preparation program in collaboration with the 糖心少女, College Park (UMD) and the Maryland State Department of Education. Successful program completion results in a Master's of Education (M.Ed.) degree and eligibility for a Maryland teaching certificate in grades 1 through 6.

Curriculum and Instruction - Mathematics Education Specialization: Middle School Math Teaching and Learning Area of Emphasis, Master of Education (M.Ed.) is a 30-credit program intended for teachers already certified in elementary education, special education, or in ESOL who are or plan to teach in subject matter classrooms in the middle grades (4th - 9th grade). This degree program was initiated with the support of several Improving Teacher Quality grants from the Maryland Higher Education Commission, which allowed its development through collaboration across disciplines and research.
The Curriculum and Instruction - Reading Specialist Specialization, Master of Education (M.Ed.) program equips current teachers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to champion literacy initiatives in diverse educational settings, ensuring equitable access to quality education for all learners. The program focuses on effective reading instruction, improving comprehension and communication skills and fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in students of all ages. Graduates become eligible for certification as reading specialists by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) upon completing the program and acquiring three years of classroom teaching experience.

The Curriculum and Instruction - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Specialization, M.Ed. prepares students to engage with research, theory and pedagogical practice in the field of TESOL.
The TESOL M.Ed. is available to school districts interested in recruiting a minimum of 12-person cohorts and requires a Memorandum of Understanding between Local Education Agencies or schools and the College of Education. Applicants should already be fluent in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Latin (written only).
The Disability Studies Minor is designed to broaden students鈥 understandings of the concept of disability, and facilitate connections to content and concepts within other disciplines on campus. It empowers students to critically engage with issues of disability, fostering a deeper understanding of diversity, equity and social justice. By exploring the complex intersections of disability with culture, society, and systems, students emerge as advocates and allies committed to creating a more inclusive and accessible world for all.

The 12-credit Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Dual Language Education (DLE) ensures the development of successful DLE educators and leaders. Additionally, the credits in this program may be used toward the M. Ed. program in curriculum and instruction or the M.A. in language, literacy, and social inquiry.
